MSU: One of the Healthiest Employers in Indiana
MSU was 1 of the 3 2011 Finalists in the 2-99 Employee category for the ‘Healthiest Employers of Indiana’ Award. This award was created to raise awareness about what local companies are doing to encourage healthy employees. We have taken our fitness campaign to a new level for 2011, holding employees to a higher standard and accountability level.
A bootcamp was integrated into our program for 6 weeks at the beginning of summer. Each Monday, for 6 weeks after work, we had an aerobics instructor come to our office to lead an outdoor bootcamp session for an hour focusing on aerobic, upper and lower body and abs and incorporating many different types of work outs from step to kick boxing.
Deskercise was another new feature of our program this year. Each day for 5 weeks, we would have a ‘deskercise break’ twice a day. A list of various stretches, strengthening and aerobic exercises was set in place for us and each day, a different office member was our ‘trainer’. We did exercises using items you can find around any office. Some examples would include chair dips and wall push ups for strength, running stairs and jumping rope in place for aerobic exercise and some stationary stretches. Everyone in the office really loved the break in the day that the deskercise program gave us.
Many other challenges through out the year are incorporated into the program, about 1 per month and incentives are given if these challenges are completed successfully. It has been a very beneficial program to be a part of and every one in the office agrees that it has really helped us to be more active in the work place and at home.

Environmental awareness is a growing concern, especially in the world of business. You can help boost your company’s green image by hosting an event using environmentally conscious components. There are many eco-friendly elements you can incorporate into your business style, from advertising materials and operational supplies to the lunch menu. Here are just a few tips for how to throw a successful corporate event that will make a minimal impact on the environment:
1. Bring the Green Inside
Look for creative ways to use recycled materials for your next banquet, seminar, or official event. You can use bioplastic materials for trays and bowls, bamboo or corkboard for hanging signs and banners, wood tables that can be recycled after the event, and more. Think about the effect your event will have on the environment and look for ways to use recycled or recyclable materials. Or, simply have your employees carpool to the event; every little bit helps.
2. Reduce Your Paper Usage
It takes hundreds of trees to print paper invitations for your event, so consider using social media and e-mails to reach your potential attendees. You can also use recycled paper to advertise your event and decorate your event station. Take advantage of this high-tech world we live in and incorporate links to your company’s website, online registration avenues, Smartphone apps, and online updates on your event’s schedule.
3. Expand on Green Initiatives
Plan meetings, events, and activities that place emphasis on your company’s environmental goals. This will educate your attendees on environmental consciousness and boost your company’s reputation as a leader in green business initiatives.
